For this year's Sew Mama Sew's giveaway, I've selected a beautiful, one-of-a-kind necklace.  I made this necklace using silver toned chain, with a center detail and pendant.  The hand wire-wrapped cobalt blue faux 'beach-glass'  dangles from a center detail of white glass tube beads and antiqued silver toned bead caps.  The necklace also contains accents of cobalt blue glass crystal beads and oval white glass beads.   The necklace is a flattering length of approximately 17.5 inches with a 1 inch extention piece, making the total length 18.5 inches.

I'm also working on writing up the directions for a couple of the crocheted 'character' hats that I designed and sell in my Etsy shop.  The pattern that I use when I make them is covered with scribbles, additions, cross-outs and arrows.  I am also left handed so I need to make sure they will work for right-ees. Since I'm not a professional pattern writer, I'm only writing up the ones that are easiest to explain. 

I plan to offer one of the most poplular  - the puppy.   I'm also working on the chick and the piggy:

 

 

 

 

I'll still be offering the actual hats for sale for folks who don't crochet.  I'll still accept orders for custom hats as time permits.  I've made these hats in many different 'characters' and cutomized color combos.  I've customized them as a cow, a monkey, a cat and a bunny.  I've even made a couple of them in adult sizes and one teenaged girl ordered an elephant and lion!

 

I've always thought it would be fun to combine a couple of them, like an elephant with puppy ears or a chick with elephant ears. You get the idea! Any other suggestion???? Leave me your ideas.

  

 

 

Great book giveaway!!!

This is a great giveaway for 4, count 'em,  4  Beth Wiseman books. I've read several Beth Wiseman books and have loved every one of them.  If you're not a fan of Amish fiction, I challange you to give it a try.  There is a bunch of difference between authors....some are very sweet and what some may call 'white washed' but always soul and spirit soothing.....and there are some who are more realistic and down to earth.  After you've read a few, you'll zero in on a few favorties.  Beth Wiseman is one of mine.  To get back to the giveaway.....you just go to this blog and follow the directions, make sure to leave your email in each entry.   I hope you win.....well, sort of....I really hope I win, 'cause I entered too, but I 'sort-of' hope you win!  haha.

What I've been up to lately

The weather has been sooooo nice here lately.  Cool, sunny, breezy........perfect!  So I have been busy outside, cutting down weeds, and with the help of my son and husband, cutting down shrubs and planting new ones.  I have also tried my hand at 'garden decor'.  Unfortunately, all the activity, digging, raking and trampling, has done a number on the ground cover in that area but it's hardy and will come back. It just looks a little bare for right now.  The area is directly in front of our front porch.  I thought I'd share some pics of what it was before and what it is now. SO, here goes.......

This is a few years ago when all three bushes were still alive.  Shortly after this the outer two bushes died and had to be removed.  That left one lonely bush in the center.  You can also see the green and white ground cover in the center.  That has since spread to cover the entire area, or , at least it had...AND WILL AGAIN ! 

Here's a more recent picture taken at Christmas time, that shows the one lonely bush. Add about a foot to the height and you will appreciate how it overpowered the area.  My husband liked it because in nice weather he could sit on the porch and work without distractions.  I didn't like it because it just looked weird!

So.... this is what I did (with some help)......

See the new, cute little shrubs? They are a dwarf variety and hopefully we won't have the 'takeover' problem we had before.  Now here is where you have to use your imagination and 'look' into the future...See that trellis?  That will eventually be covered with morning glories, and the ground cover will blanket the area with pretty green and white foliage.

The stairs are the next project on the agenda.  I'll be replacing the handrails and then giving them a good coat of paint.

See those little green and white leavesin the lower left corner?  That's the surviving ground cover that will eventually carpet the area again.

That's what I've been up to.  Not much time for reading so there are no book reviews to post.

It's about time!
